Ying Liu is an Assistant Professor at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research, Northwell Health. His laboratory investigates how tumors reshape metabolism and inter-organ communication across the whole organism, with a particular focus on cancer cachexia and tumor–host metabolic interactions. During his postdoctoral training with Norbert Perrimon at Harvard Medical School, he pioneered organism-wide approaches to cancer biology, including whole-body single-nucleus RNA sequencing and cross-species studies of systemic metabolic mechanisms. He earned his PhD in Genetics from the University of Helsinki, where his research ranged from nutrient sensing and insulin/mTOR-regulated growth to the transcriptional control of ribosome biogenesis. His laboratory now integrates genetics, genomics, computational biology, and metabolism to define how localized disease drives multi-organ dysfunction and to identify conserved, actionable mechanisms underlying cancer cachexia and related systemic diseases.
